Frozen, briefly

Posted by admin on February 29th, 2008

I have silence now. I am blessed with the deafness that comes from lying prone within a deep snowbank of exhaustion. Exhaustion in word and deed, exhaustion in visual images, exhaustion in thought. I'm noiseless, muffled and packed in close. Paralysis, sudden and welcome.

Isolation can be so comforting when everything around you seems sharp and dangerous. Removing yourself to a place that embraces and buffers you for inches on every side protects and anesthetizes. I've never relied on alcohol or drugs to defend myself, instead I wait for this snow white embrace of near-non-being to  penetrate my core and remind me how much comfort lies in being small, surrounded and senseless.

Insensate. White noise escaping. Deafness of mind and soul. Strange, ringing silence. Frozen, briefly.

Temporary peace.

Self control

I have little self control, and a few things for me are essentially labeled as kryptonite. And, surprise surprise, they mostly involve alcohol!

Still I’m dying with every step I take

Posted by admin on February 29th, 2008

It arrived today, the letter I've been waiting for. Didn't state much though, only that I've been put in queue for an initial examination to see how deep down in shit I am. It's weird, I haven't been seeing my therapist in weeks now just waiting for this letter and I'm starting to feel a bit unstable again. Been better with the bad habits, but it's on my mind all the time. So I started a diet, and at least that's better than doing the other things I usually do. Yesterday I managed on 200 calories. Well, until someone decided to pour 2 bottles of wine down my throat. Read the rest of this entry »

Day In The Life

The need for mead.

Posted by admin on February 29th, 2008

Is mead posed for a comeback? My first experience with mead was at the local Irish pub. Because I love that pub's atmosphere so much I think I'd enjoy drinking kerosene there. My later experiences (one bottle from an internationally distributed brand, another from a local winery) never quite matched up to that first one. The author sums up my conclusion pretty well:

Strange enough to be intriguing, but too strange to be at home on the dinner table, mead is a stubborn paradox. I like mead conceptually—the lore, the eccentricities. I even occasionally like a bottle. But no mead has ever earned its way into my alcoholic rotation. ... Of course, the rapturous aroma was intoxicating, and I spent a few moments inhaling it. But the taste that followed was neither more nor less than limpid, liquid honey. If Winnie-the-Pooh ever took to the bottle, this is exactly what he'd want.

INCIDENT’08 @ NITK Surathkal – Day 0 and Day 1

Posted by admin on February 29th, 2008

I am presently in the worst state possible. Imagine my state after 2 hours of cricket, 2 hours of continuous drinking and 5 hours of continuous dancing in the DJ nite! I am just too damn tired and just waiting to go make peace with my bed… But I just wanted to give an update about my college fest that started yesterday and continued today. It has 3 more days to go but I will just run you through the events –obviously the ones that I happened to see.

Which frankly speaking, wasn't much! Last night was the Eastern Musicals which saw 8 teams battle out for the best band of the evening. Frankly speaking, the quality of the performances and the audio was much better than last year's. There was this air of maturity in the way the participants performed. Apparently, I had walked out during the performance of the team which eventually won the prize! The best part of their performance was, I heard, immediately after I left! Very convenient! And for once, the home team didn't end up winning in spite of a pathetic performance. Ok frankly speaking, this time even our college's performance was up to the mark and I have to appreciate the male lead's voice which was smooth enough for the entire 20 mins. However it was the team from NITTE ( I think) that ran away with the honours in the end. End of day 0.

Begin Day 1 and the only thing I did in the entire morning was to crack the crossword with the help of my roommate and my other close friend. The daily quiz was a farce with all the pictures in the paper hardly visible to anyone! I strongly believe that the worst event in Incident History was, is and always will be the INFORMALZ! There is absolutely no competition for that! Having watched the Mood-I Informalz at IIT Bombay, it was really hard to even comprehend the level to which Informalz at Incident would stoop down to! If you want to waste your time when you can waste your time in a better way, please visit the INFORMALZ at SS during INCIDENT! I tried my luck at the headbanging competition at the Informalz and the only thing I came out with was a sore neck that needed rest for the rest of the day!

The first worthwhile event that I attended was the India Quiz which was part of the major QUIZFEST @ INCIDENT'08. And it was a worthwhile experience! The questions were good enough in quality and quantity with not a single question on the arbit side. I missed out qualifying by some not so large margin. The Word Games that was held was even better! I believe Satya and Avi were heavily inspired by the Mood-I word games (which in turn was the best Word Games that I have ever come across)! And it readily showed in the quality and the innovation of the paper. I am sure lot of effort went into the framing of the paper. Though I am not confident of making it to the finals, I will make it a point to watch the finals.

But I guess the best was always saved for the last. The main attraction in INCIDENT are the Pro- Nites at the end of the day featuring well known professional artists of different genres on different occasions. Today was a Semi-Pro DJ Nite followed by a DJ performance by the well known Professional DJ Inferno. Thing is, I have always been a great admirer of all Professional performances. And I was really overwhelmed by this dude's performance! I kept dancing for all the Semi-Pro DJs for the better part of 2 hours but then when DJ Inferno took the Stage, it was a totally different experience altogether! His music and tracks were teeming with professionalism! I don't know much about DJing but I can tell you this much- DJ Inferno rocked and kicked ass! This was my first experience with a professional DJ and I would like to tell you all that DJ Inferno is very much in his own league. BTW, I , alongwith some 4 friends of mine, had been to the DJ Nite on a high, after some memorable drinking sessions. And that made the whole experience even more worthwhile and memorable! I had never danced so much in my entire life! It was more like 'F*** all worries and just Party!" DJ Inferno lived upto everyone's expectations and more! I would definitely pay to watch this guy perform again!

Also, Kudos to all the girls who stayed right till the end, dancing all the way till 1 in the morning! But frankly speaking, the whole SAC looked more like a Boys' night out and one could find girls only if they were really looking for them!

Anyway, there is more to come in the 3 days ahead! Looking forward to KK's performance tomo and the western musicals on Saturday….. Will be updating you on a daily basis…

Whisky At Its Perfect Blend

Posted by admin on February 29th, 2008

370174961_4248f08aff_m A brief introduction of the term whisky:

The art of making perfectly amalgamated whisky dates back to the ages of the monks in the 15th century. The delicate whiff of the blended whisky has never been explained clearly even today.

“Beatha” an ancient term, which is a Gaelic language for the Latin “aqua vitae” or as, termed “water of life” that was tarnished to “usky” in the 18th century and then transformed to “whisky”.

Making of whisky:

1.Malting: barley is first drenched in water and then spread out on malting floors to sprout. For the prevention of heat build up it is turned up on a regular basis. In the earlier times the barley was tossed in the air by placing barley on the wooden shovels in malt shed flanking to the oven.

During this process the enzymes get activated. The starch is converted into sugar while mashing takes Place. The germination takes place after 6-7 days and then it is called green malt. After the germination is over the green malt goes to the furnace for drying. To keep the enzymes the temperature should be below 70 degree Celsius. To convey flavor from the smoke peat may be added to the fire.

2.Mashing: In this process malt is pulverized into grist and hot water is added to extract the sugar. In 3 stages water will be added starting at a temperature of 67 degree Celsius and rises up to the boiling point.

In a large stainless kettle the extraction takes place, and is termed mash, which is then stirred helping it to convert from starch to sugar. When mashing is done the sweet sugary liquid is formed.

3.Fermentation: The sugary liquid is cooled in this process and is pumped back to washbacks. Sugar is a feeder to the living yeast, which as a result produces alcohol and other compounds called congeners that take out the flavor of the whisky.

Wash froths are produced viciously along with carbon dioxide. After the fermentation the wash generate 6-8% alcohol.

4.Distillation: The alcohol is estranged from water by distillation process. The wash is distilled two times. And other residue will include yeast and pot ale; these residues are also used for cow feeding.

The distilled wash is known as low wines, containing about 20% alcohol content. Then it goes to the spirit still for another distillation. In the spirit receiver only 60% alcohol is collected.

Maturation: Whisky at a matured level becomes smooth, flavor enriched, and achieve a golden flavor from the oak cask. And the other restrained compounds enhance whisky’s idiosyncratic flavor.

The law allows whisky to mature for 3 years as a minimum time. But all single malts are stored in the wood from 8-15 years. The evaporation is allowed for a maximum of 2% from the oak cask strictly controlled by customs and excise.

Bottling: A bottle of malt whisky may only contain whisky distilled from malted barley. Vatted whiskies are those that are produced at more than one distillery. It can be also termed as blended malt or pure malt. Blended whisky can be made by mixing single malt with gram whisky. Single malts are either bottled by the distillary or by an independent bottler.

Whisky Circle was created by a small group of whisky afficinados. It started out as a 'club' where lovers of single malts got together and made small talk over a malt. For more further information please visit www.whiskycircle.com

Many people will tell you that the only thing you can actually and truly own while you're alive is yourself. I think not. We, our bodies, our minds, are comprised of materials that are borrowed, all of them. All of it has got to be returned as soon as our time is up. Temporary vessels of impressions and attempts of comprehension. We are not the only things that the bricks of Life will ever bother themselves with. Get over it and get it over with.

Amy Winehouse belandt opnieuw in drugshel

Posted by admin on February 29th, 2008
