Yesterday was a really really gorgeous day. The first day where it felt like spring. Not that I am under any illusions, I know that we are still due that one really cold snap that leave you thinking “WTF was that?!” but it was so nice yesterday afternoon to sit out in the sun. It reminded me a lot of school holidays when I was about  15 or so. Our lounge at home in Zim had big glass French doors. The sun would come streaming in; making a pool of warmth on the carpet. I used to stay in bed until I knew the sun would be on the carpet. Then I’d get up, make myself some tea, and some Cerelac (yes, I know it’s for babies. So what. I liked it), get my book and spread myself out in the sun. I’d have to share with the cat and occasionally Shenzi, our Alsatian. All three of us would scootch up as the patch of sunlight moved. Eventually, the sun would be right overhead and I would be forced to get up off the floor; and drap myself over the couch. Then my parents built their dream verandah onto the house (it’s amazing) but it blocked the sun from the lounge and that was that.

I had a nice snooze with the cats on the couch yesterday afternoon; spent some time reading my book and then J made oxtail with beans and rice and all that jazz for supper. We enjoyed a really excellent bottle of Private Bin Shiraz too. I didn’t realise how much I needed a weekend off. I feel recharged and ready to hit the studying with a big stick. I have so much planned for the up-coming months, work stuff, studying, possibly a few days off with my sister doing wedding-y stuff I HAVE to get started on it now.

OH and I did make the cupcakes, with the marshmallow ‘frosting’. Except they were sooooo good that there are no photos. So um. Yes. Go forth, make them. You shall not be sorry.

J’s away for 10 days from today. Field work. It wouldn’t be so bad if he had cellphone reception where he’s going; but he doesn’t. So I usually get a text from the last point with reception on his way up; and another at the first point with reception on the way back. Maybe an email in between if he can get to the office at the lodge. *sigh* It sucks; but it’s only for the rest of this year (fingers crossed) and then he’ll be writing up.

I’m just seen that the WineEx show is on in August…here’s hoping I can swing it so that I am ‘working’ in Cape Town while it’s on!!

Sunshine

Wine April 30th, 2009

We are basking in sunshine on Youngberg Hill as the fog sets in the valley. The vines are enjoying the warmth of the sun and growing like crazy. The cold night we had a couple of nights ago did not hurt the buds at all, so all is fine.

We are preparing for this Saturday night’s winemaker dinner here at the Inn. It is going to be decadent. We will also be at the Stephanie Inn on Sunday for a winemaker’s dinner there. What a treat.

May is shaping up to be quite a busy month with a pouring at Linfield College on the 4th, Mother’s Day open house on the 10th, a tasting at Dobbes Family Estate on the 17th, and of course Memorial Weekend Open House.

Come on up to Taste the Wine & Savor the views!
